Hearing Impaired Identification Card

If you have a hearing impairment and do not hold a learner's permit or driver's license issued from any state within the United States, you may obtain a hearing impaired identification card.

This ID card is the same as an adult ID card except that it bears the notation "Hearing Impaired ID". It does not provide special privileges, but does indicate that you have a hearing impairment.

To find out about the requirements and the application process for an ID card, refer to Obtaining an Identification Card.

For ID card examples, visit Images of Driver's Licenses and Identification Cards.

License Indicator

A driver's license indicator is available for drivers who are hearing impaired. This indicator is placed on the driver's license in order to identify the disability to law enforcement personnel.

Visor Alert

The Visor Alert program issues visor and wallet cards to hearing impaired drivers to help these drivers and police officers to communicate more effectively with each other.
