Renewing a Disabled Parking Placard or License Plate
Permanent Disabled Parking Placards
You can renew your permanent disabled parking placards or plates using these methods:
- By Mail to:

- P. O. Box 85815
- Richmond, VA 23285-5815
- In person at any DMV customer service center
You may renew your placard no more than two months prior to the placard expiration date and no more than two months after the expiration date.
A certification from a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, podiatrist or chiropractor is not required to renew a permanent placard.
Temporary Placards
Temporary disabled parking placards are valid for up to six months and cannot be renewed.
A new Disabled Parking Plates or Placard Application (MED 10) with a new certification from a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or chiropractor is required to obtain another temporary placard. Refer to the Certification Table on the MED 10 to determine the medical professional authorized to certify your allowable condition.
Institutional or Organizational Placards
Institutional/organizational disabled parking placards are valid for five years and cannot be renewed.
Institutions or organizations must reapply using a new Institutional/organizational Disabled Parking Plate or Placard Application (MED 11). The new placard will be valid for another five years.
Renewing Disabled Parking Plates
To renew disabled parking plates, simply renew your vehicle registration.

You may determine the delivery status of your placard using the Disabled Placard Delivery Status transaction.
